    3RD WEATHER SQUADRON, DISNEY DESIGNED SQUADRON PATCH
    3rd Weather Squadron, HQ AAF
    Beautiful American-made chain stitched embroidery on wool.
    A classic Disney design showing Cupid sitting on a cloud in galoshes with all kinds of weather taking place around. A great insignia made even more dynamic by the use of chain stitch.
    Used and removed from flight clothing with light to moderate wear, very light soiling, and maybe a couple of extremely tiny moth nips. About 5-1/2”+ in diameter.
    LINEAGE
    . Constituted as the Third Weather Squadron on 24 June 1937, it was activated at Barksdale Field, Louisiana, and assigned to the Office of the Chief of the Army Air Corps on 1 July 1937.  It was one of three original squadrons organized when the weather function was transferred from the Signal Corps to the Air Corps.  The Third moved to Duncan Field (later Kelly Field), Texas, on 1 March 1941.  It was assigned to the Directorate of Weather, Army Air Forces on 9 March 1942 and redesignated the 3d Weather Squadron, Regional, on 16 June 1942.  It was assigned to the Flight Control Command on 13 April 1943 and to the Weather Wing, Flight Control Command (later Army Air Forces Weather Wing) on 19 May 1943.  It was redesignated the 3d Weather Squadron on 1 November 1943.  The 3d Weather Squadron was disbanded on 7 September 1944 and replaced by the 70th Army Air Forces Base Unit (3d Weather Region).
    The 3rd was one of three original squadrons that eventually transferred from the Signal Corps to the Air Corps.  Constituted as Third Weather Squadron on 24 Jun 1937.  Activated on 1 Jul 1937.  Redesignated as: 3 Weather Squadron, Regional, on 16 Jun 1942; 3 Weather Squadron on 1 Nov 1943.  Disbanded on 7 Sep 1944.
