All brackets are identical in construction, have a projection ranging from 2-3/4" to 3-3/4", with a diameter of 3/4", so you're going to want to use a 5/8" pole or smaller. These are vintage old brackets, so they show wear, age, patina, a few over paint marks, and a small amount of surface rust, but that's all it is. Minor surface rust only, nothing is cancerous and into the metal. How to clean or not to clean, is left to your discretion.
