Thee ash pole is no longer available. I have replaced it with an Eastern White Pine pole 2 1/4" in diameter driftwood stained
    sealed
with gloss urethane. Photos to follow shortly.
Up for your consideration this decorative single flue iron would make a nice accent piece to your nautical rec room or office. The handle is an ash pole, kiln dried, 2" in diameter with a minwax golden oak stain sealed with a coat of gloss urethane. The rope is 5/16" pure manila whipped with marline cord. The tip is cast iron welded to a 7/16" steel shaft.
The single flue iron was introduced in the early 1820's replacing the two flue iron. However it was short lived due to the introduction of the Temple Toggle in 1848. The single flue iron was preferred by some and was still found in whaleship's inventory through the 19th century.
The tip of the harpoon is an exact copy taken from a collection owned by Captain Joshua G. Baker, circa 1900. Captain Baker (1845 - 1910) who lived in South Dartmouth, MA was the skipper of the whaleship Reindeer from 1877 - 1891.
