    Description

A fine quality handcrafted cover for 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" by 1/2" (9x14x1.3cm) journals like the Moleskine Classic Notebook, Office Depot Foray series, Piccadilly Essential, etc. We've copied these from Civil War pocket diaries common to the period. Like the originals, our version features a wrap-around flap that tucks under a leather strap. They are blind-tooled around the edges and can be further customized with gold tooling (see "PERSONALIZATION" below)
This project comes from a Civil War Soldier's Pocket Diary made by The Gilded Leaf, which offers period printed matter, a handsewn textblock, inner pocket, handmarbled paper, etc. For the purist, nothing else will do, but they're fairly intricate to make and somewhat more expensive. We hope this version offers both the Civil War Reenactor and any lover of fine journals a modest alternative.
It is bound in genuine morocco (the classic name for goatskin), vegetable-tanned, and lined with coated "endsheet" stock. Your journal is slid into the inner pockets, and you'll find the cover functions as if the journal was bound in place. Removal and replacement of the textblock is just as easy, and we hope this cover will last through many skirmishes, encampments, and campaigns.
(If your notebook comes with an elastic strap, you may wish to remove it.)
COLORS: We currently offer these in black, dark brown, saddle tan, navy blue, green, and burgundy (which appears lighter and more red in the photos than in natural light). Please tell us what color you'd like.
    PERSONALIZATION:
We'll add the Civil War "DIARY" stamp (last picture) for an additional , three initials for , or a name for . If you'd like further customization of the leather, size, etc., don't hesitate to ask. These are made by The Gilded Leaf: Fine Bookbinding & Restoration in Maryville,Tennessee, who can make just about anything!
