Description
VINTAGE EARLY AMERICAN SKINNER.
This fine piece of Americana is 8.5" in total with a 4" blade.
It is a classic skinning knife, a tool used by buffalo hunters and game hunters for generations. The wood handles are held to the full
heavily-tapered tang
by
5 small pins
and are still very tight. The blade is is a heavy carbon steel, is stained and has certainly been sharpened over the years, but could easily be put back to work if need be. If there was a maker's mark on the blade it is no longer visible, but historic weapons expert
Jack Trotter
feels that it may well be a
Russell Green River
knife. I estimate the age of this piece as the 1800s. As usual, I offer a no-questions asked 60-day return policy. If you don't like an item
