    Description

Proof of Overprint,  printed on slip sheet / onion skin paper.  American Issue 1 ore value  with corresponding 1 ore single stamp of overprint.
This is the Type A overprint
    - the small size overprint that was used for the lower values.
The Original set of the American Issue was printed by the American Bank Note Company in early 1945 to meet the need for postage in Greenland.  Denmark had been over run by Germany and stamp stocks were depleted in Greenland.
A few months after issue, Denmark was liberated and it was decided to issue Overprint sets to celebrate this happening.
Existing stock of the American Issue were sent to the Commercial Stationery Company of New York where the "Danmark Befriet 5 Maj 1945" was to be applied.
However, there seems to have been some accidental overprint impressions made on "slip sheets" or onion skin paper.  Some Greenland specialists speculate that these are "proofs" .  There are no records of such slip sheets ever being used in the printing process.
These overprints are designated TYPE A and are only known on 2 of the low values - the 1 ore and the 7 ore.  No known copies on the 5 ore.
The 1 ore stamp is mint NH, retailing to .
With 1967 GRONLUND certificate .  Indicates on the certificate that it is
    position #62
.Only 100 examples known ( or 1 sheet of each value).
