    DESCRIPTION:
    1 antique 1930's F.J. Richtig
    salesman sample
available.  This rare Richtig knife has a cut-away handle that Frank Richtig used to demonstrate how his knives were anchored in the handles.
This knife would make an important addition to any collection.
    This knife
was made by a legend in knife-making.  Frank Richtig had a secret steel tempering process that allowed him to slice through railroad spikes and automobile leaf springs.  Frank would demonstrate this at county fairs--after slicing a railroad spike or leaf spring, he would slice through a piece of paper with the same knife.  Frank earned himself a spot in a 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' magazine in the 1930's.  These knives can be used for decades, because of Frank's superior craftsmanship.
This knife measures 11 7/16” overall.  The blade itself measures 7”.  Since it is a salesman sample knife, Frank did not sharpen the blade edge.  The handle is aluminum with an ebony wood inlay.  The wood inlay has a mother-of-pearl star inset.  I have owned three other Richtig knives with wood handle inlays.  The handle is not stamped.
This knife was purchased at Frank Richtig’s auction.  This knife was found in a wood box with lots of other knives (see photos of other knives purchased at the auction, but not included in this eBay listing).  A letter from the gentleman who bought this knife at the auction accompanies this desirable knife.
    CONDITION:
This Richtig salesman sample knife is in perfect condition.  The carbon steel (non-stainless) blade has the expected carbon staining.
