This auction is for a Vintage Wood GRUMBACHER ART BOX Travel EASEL No. 286 Wooden Display . This Item is Vintage/antique and is in VERY GOOD condition. The design has been the same for 100 years. Art box easel is made of wood and so are the 3 extendable legs. Travel easel for painting outside or use as a retro painting display conversation piece. MEASUREMENTS: When folded up, art box measures 15 inches x 22 inches x 6.5 inches. Two (2) front legs extend from 21 to 36 inches. Rear leg extends from 29 to 36 inches. Canvas area extends up to approx 32 inches. Measurements are approximate. Drawer slides out to hold paint, paint brushes, etc. Art box has 2 latches to close.
This is a lovely vintage easel made for Grumbacher. The easel is designed to be ultra portable. It is perfect plein air painting. It has been used but has been cared for. What you see on the metal tray is not rust, but some kind of superficial residue, perhaps glue, and while I am not bothering to do so, I tested it, and it can be cleaned off. This is a nice wooden box with a leather handle. It has storage for paints and brushes. The previous owners name is printed - looks like in marker- next to the metal clasps. Made in France.
