World War II 15th Army Patch
. The Patch represents a machine embroidered regulation issue patch.  Activated in August 1944 at Fort Sam Houston the 15th Corps fought in Europe late in the War.  General Patton was transferred from 3rd Army to 15th Army as a punitive measure.  It was removed from a uniform.  The patch is in fair to fair plus condition and at least 76 years old.

Background:
Activated August 1944 at Fort Sam Houston.  During the Battle of the Bulge its Headquarters Command Post was threatened and had to be withdrawn.  A troop ship carrying Headquarters troops for 15th Army struck or mine or was torpedoed in the English Channel, the troopship sank with a loss of 13 men.  Once in Europe they were assigned to reconstitute, reequip and retrain men from the 12th Army Group that had taken horrific casualties in the Ardennes.  The 15th Army had only small units ever engage in sealing off the Ruhr Pocket.  They then processed prisoners and worked the occupation.  They were briefly under General Patton when he was punitively reassigned from 3rd Army, and General Eisenhower's son, John, served in 15th Army during the War.
