Original set of WWII theater made patches for the 9th Air Force.
Harder to find British made printed on rubberized canvas with typical black canvas backing and a British made machine embroidered on felt version.
Passes the black light and burn tests.  They have a bit of glue residue on the back from being glued into an album.  The printed one came off a jacket and shows some age and wear from use, the embroidered one has been sewn on a uniform and shows a bit of fading from age and use.
In order to save precious cargo space on ships going across the Atlantic, some lower priority US supplies were produced in the UK
so some US patches were factory produced there and some were done by local tailors and embroiderers located near US bases.
Early in the war the UK started producing shoulder insignia designs
    printed
on rubberized canvas to save on materials and reduce production casts.
These printed versions were not very popular with US troops for wear on regular uniforms but did find use on flying gear, flight jackets and coveralls.
The embroidered types  were very popular with US troops, especially for wear on their regular uniforms, because they were more distinctive than the standard US made embroidered insignia and the fancier US made versions were harder to get once the troops were overseas
    .
The 9th Air Force saw action in North Africa, Italy and Europe. B-24 Liberators from the 9th Air Force took part of the on the Ploesti oil fields raid,  and provided bombing and interdiction raids in support of the D-Day landings and later tactical Air Support for allied efforts in Europe.
